Applications

  • Culinary Ferments: 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) LAB-X per kg of chopped plant material (comfrey, nettle, garlic) alongside a carbon source.

  • Foliar & Soil Drench: Dilute 1 ml per 1-Liter dechlorinated water (1:1000) for direct plant fortification or living soil drenching.

  • Terra Preta Nova & Compost: Dilute 10ml per 1-Litre water to inoculate biochar matrices, Bokashi systems, or accelerate compost heap fermentation.

About LAB-X?

Why Lactic Acid Bacteria?

Lactic acid bacteria are nature’s preservation specialists. By rapidly converting sugars into organic acids, they lower $text{pH}$ and create conditions that favor beneficial fermentation while discouraging spoilage and putrefactive microorganisms. This biological strategy has been used for thousands of years in yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kimchi, silage, and sourdough. LAB-X harnesses this same natural fermentation engine for modern biological applications, providing a reliable starter culture for agriculture, composting, biological waste management, and fermentation systems.

Expected LAB-X Consortium:

LAB-X is developed by enriching the lactic acid bacteria naturally present within the parent microbial culture through successive whey enrichment fermentations. The resulting consortium is dominated by species commonly associated with traditional whey fermentations:

Preservation

Essential Salts to Preserve:

  • No Acid Shock: Calcium Lactate is the exact organic conjugate base of lactic acid (pKa ≈ 3.86). Adding Calcium Lactate buffers harsh free H+ ions slightly while creating an abundance of lactate ions, signaling feedback inhibition to the LAB that their metabolic end-products are saturated.

  • Peptidoglycan Bridge: Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions lock down the negative phosphate charges on cell membranes, preventing cell lysis during long starvation periods.

  • Low Activity, High Viability: The salt concentration increases osmotic pressure just enough to force the bacteria into metabolic dormancy without killing them or forcing them to form thick, difficult-to-reactivate biofilms.

How It Works:

LAB-X is a concentrated consortium of cultured Lactic Acid Bacteria operating under self-generated acidic stasis. Through active lactic fermentation, the culture drives its environment down to a high acidity (pH < 3.5) medium, entering a natural metabolic pause. Essential minerals (Calcium Lactate and Epsom Salt) creating an ionic strength media to aid LAB cells in maintaining structural integrity and dormancy without harsh sodium salts. Upon dilution with dechlorinated water, the ionic pressure drops, waking the bacteria instantly to multiply on available substrates.


Instructions

1 — BREW

Empty the LAB Broth Nutrient Pack into the 1000ml culture vessel and fill up with 950 ml of clean, non-chlorinated water. Stir until all sugars and nutrients are completely dissolved.

2 — INOCULATE

Add the complete 50 cc LAB-X Mother Culture Vial. Cover the culture bottle opening with the N95 Vent Cloth and screw the lid on tightly, then back it off 1/4 turn to allow safe, filtered gas exchange.

3 — FERMENT

Place in a warm, dark space with the lid kept 1/4 turn loose:

  • Hot Space (35 °C): Ferment for 7–10 days until Brix 0.0° and pH<3.5.

  • Ambient Cabinet (23–27 ºC): Ferment for 14–21 days until fully attenuated.

4 — FILTER & PRESERVE

Pour the fermented liquid through the Non-Woven LAB Filter Bag into a clean 2L bowl. Stir in the Essential Salts Preserve Pack until completely dissolved. Clean the culture vessel, pour the preserved LAB-X back in, re-apply the N95 filter, and screw closed. Store in a dark cupboard (24-month shelf life).

Proper Inoculation Guidelines for Food

When utilizing a concentrated LAB serum like LAB-X for kitchen and food applications, use it strictly as a starter inoculant:

  • Vegetable Lacto-Fermentation (Sauerkraut, Pickles, Kimchi): Rely primarily on epiphytic wild LAB supported by a 2.0–2.5% salt-by-weight ratio. To kickstart stubborn ferments or speed up acidification, add 1 ml to 2 ml of LAB-X per kilogram (1 kg) of prepared vegetables dissolved in brine.

  • Meat Lacto-Fermentation (Salami / Pepperoni): Add 2 ml to 5 ml of LAB-X per kilogram (1 kg) of meat mixture alongside 0.5%–1.0% dextrose for precise acidification steering.

  • Sourdough Inoculation / Enhancements: Use 0.5 ml to 1 ml per 500 g of flour/water pre-ferment to introduce a clean lactic acid profile without suppressing wild yeast rise.

The Golden Rule: In agriculture, you overwhelm the system with biology to steer decay. In food, you orchestrate a precise biochemical recipe—start small, let the microbes multiply naturally, and let time do the work.

Applications

IMPORTANT NOTICE ON WATER QUALITY:

LAB-X contains living bacteria. Municipal tap water contains chlorine or chloramines, which will kill the live culture. Always use dechlorinated water. You can remove chlorine using three simple methods:

  1. Static Degassing: Leave water in an open bucket overnight (16–24 hours).
  2. Aeration: Use an aquarium air pump and airstone for 4–6 hours.
  3. Thermal / Heat: Boiling water drives off dissolved gases (cool completely to ambient temperature before adding LAB-X).

Applications & Usage Guide:

1. Biological Fermentation

  • LAB Starter Culture (Mother Stock Expansion): 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water plus a 2% target carbon source (e.g., dextrose or brown sugar).

  • Fermented Plant Extracts (FPE) & Botanical Tonics: 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) LAB-X per kg of chopped plant material (comfrey, nettle, garlic) alongside a carbon source.

  • Bokashi Bran: Dilute 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water with a carbon source, then mix thoroughly with dry bran or carrier material to applicable moisture content.

  • Kitchen / Waste Bokashi: 1 Teaspoon (5 ml) LAB-X per kg of organic waste. Spread over scraps, compress to expel air, and seal.

2. Living Soil & Plant Health

  • Soil Drench — Rhizosphere Inoculation: 1 ml LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water (1:1000). Apply to the root zone every 2–4 weeks to drop local micro-pH and solubilize bound minerals.

  • Foliar Microbial Application: 1 ml) LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water (1:1000). Apply as a fine foliar spray during early morning or late afternoon.

  • Seed Inoculation / Pre-Soak: 1 Teaspoon (5 ml) LAB-X per 10 litres of dechlorinated water (1:2000). Soak seeds for up to 12 hours prior to planting.

3. Compost & Waste Management

  • Compost & Worm Farms: 1 Teaspoon (5 ml) LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water. Apply sufficiently to moisten organic material and control putrefactive odours.

  • Organic Waste & Odour Control: 5 ml to 10 ml LAB-X per litre of dechlorinated water. Spray directly onto problem areas.

  • Drains & Grease Traps:

    • Septic Tank: 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) LAB-X down the toilet cistern before low-use hours.

    • Heavy Duty Deodorizing: Dilute 3 Tablespoons (45 ml) LAB-X per litre of water and spray foul-smelling heaps or animal pens.

4. Forage & Silage Fermentation

Accelerates lactic-acid fermentation, rapidly drops pH, and suppresses undesirable butyrate and ammonia generation. Target application rate: 105–106 viable LAB CFU per gram of fresh forage.

5. Research & Experimental Applications

LAB fermentation pathways are actively researched across advanced sectors including biochar immobilization matrices, lignocellulosic biomass pre-treatment, anaerobic digestion enhancement, rock dust mineral solubilization, and microbial-induced calcium-carbonate biomineralization.
