ePTFE Magnetic stir bar; 25 x 7mm – Type B

A magnetic stir bar of type B is a commonly used laboratory tool designed for stirring liquids in various scientific and research applications. The dimensions of this specific stir bar is 25mm long with a 7mm girth. It is made of a ePTFE with a smooth surface, friction ring, and a rare-earth magnetic core inside.

Features & Benefits:

  • Pure Virgin PTFE Coating: Experience the world’s lowest coefficient of friction with ePTFE – or Teflon™. These are chemically inert, autoclavable, and won’t leach into your delicate mycelium broth.

  • High-Purity Rare Earth Magnets: Designed for high-speed rotations without “decoupling.” These stay locked to the magnetic field even at 3000 RPM.

  • Type-B Pivot Design: The integrated central ring reduces contact surface area. This prevents “drag” and is specifically optimized for use in plastic bottles or flat-bottom flasks.

  • Optimal 25mm Sizing: The “Goldilocks” length for vessels ranging from 50mm to 200mm in diameter.

A magnetic stir plate or stirrer is then used, which generates a rotating magnetic field. The stir bar, being magnetic, responds to the field and starts rotating, causing the liquid to mix or stir.
