Commercial 100cc Living Inoculant in Septum Bottle + Sterilized Sorghum Grain Spawn w/ SHIP

🧠 The Brain-Boosting Powerhouse

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is one of the world’s most distinctive gourmet mushrooms, instantly recognized by its cascading white spines that resemble a lion’s mane. Prized by chefs for its delicate seafood-like flavour and texture, it has also gained international attention through ongoing scientific research into its unique bioactive compounds.

Unlike oyster mushrooms that form shelf-like clusters, Lion’s Mane develops dense, rounded fruiting bodies covered in long, soft spines. It is an excellent choice for growers seeking a premium gourmet mushroom with outstanding culinary appeal and striking visual appearance.

Each Spawn Kit contains everything required to establish your first grain spawn. Once fully colonized, the grain spawn can be expanded into your preferred fruiting substrate for productive harvests.

🌱 Cultivation

Lion’s Mane is well suited to cultivation on hardwood-based substrates and performs particularly well on supplemented hardwood sawdust and Master’s Mix.

Recommended substrates include:

  • Master’s Mix (Hardwood Sawdust & Soy Hulls)
  • Supplemented hardwood sawdust
  • Hardwood pellets
  • Sterilized hardwood-based substrates

For best results, provide high humidity, moderate Fresh Air Exchange (FAE) and indirect lighting during fruiting. Under suitable conditions, Lion’s Mane produces dense white fruiting bodies covered with characteristic cascading spines.

Although slightly slower than oyster mushrooms to colonize, Lion’s Mane rewards patient growers with exceptional quality and multiple flushes.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Why Grow Lion’s Mane?

  • Premium gourmet mushroom with excellent market value
  • Unique seafood-like flavour and tender texture
  • Distinctive cascading white spines
  • Well suited to hardwood-based cultivation
  • Increasingly popular among chefs and home growers
  • Excellent choice for hobby and commercial cultivation
  • Produces beautiful, eye-catching fruiting bodies

πŸ“¦ What’s Included

Each Lion’s Mane Spawn Kit contains:

  • 1 Γ— 100 ml Living Inoculant (LI) containing Hericium erinaceus
    • Amber laboratory Culture Bottle with reusable 3 mm silicone septum
  • 1 Γ— 1 kg Sterilized Sorghum Grain Spawn
    • Integrated Self-Healing Injection Port (SHIP)
    • 0.2 Β΅m PTFE filter patch
  • 1 Γ— Sterile 5 ml syringe
  • 1 Γ— Sterile 16G needle

Detailed instructions are provided in the “How to Use LI” tab.

How to Use LI

πŸ§ͺ How to Use Your Living Inoculant (LI)

Your Spawn Kit has been designed to make mushroom cultivation as simple and contamination-resistant as possible. The included Living Inoculant (LI) contains an actively growing mushroom mono-culture, while the Sterilized Sorghum Grain Spawn provides the ideal medium for expanding that culture into vigorous grain spawn.

🧼 Step 1 – Sanitize

Before inoculation, wipe both the Culture Bottle septum and the SHIP (Self-Healing Injection Port) on the Spawn Bag with 70% rubbing alcohol.

Allow both surfaces to air dry before proceeding.

πŸ’‰ Step 2 – Withdraw the Living Inoculant

Using the supplied sterile syringe and needle:

  • Insert the needle through the bottle septum.
  • Withdraw approximately 5 ml (5 cc) of Living Inoculant.
  • Remove any excess air from the syringe.

The Culture Bottle is reusable and can be accessed multiple times using sterile technique, via a 3mm thick silicone septum.

πŸ“¦ Step 3 – Inoculate the Spawn Bag

Insert the needle through the SHIP on the Spawn Bag and slowly inject the 5 ml of Living Inoculant into the sterilized sorghum grain.

Remove the needle and gently massage the inoculation site if necessary.

The SHIP will reseal automatically after the needle is removed.

πŸŒ™ Step 4 – Incubate

Place the Spawn Bag in a clean, dark location at approximately 23–27Β°C.

Do not expose the bag to direct sunlight.

During incubation, the white mycelium will gradually spread throughout the grain.

πŸ”„ Step 5 – Mix the Grain

Once approximately 30–40% of the grain has colonized with healthy white mycelium, gently break apart the colonized grain and mix it evenly throughout the bag.

This redistributes the growing mycelium and significantly accelerates complete colonization.

πŸ„ Step 6 – Use as Grain Spawn

Once the grain is fully colonized (completely white), it is ready to inoculate your preferred mushroom substrate.

Suitable substrates include pasteurized straw, hardwood sawdust, Master’s Mix, and other compatible materials depending on the mushroom species.

For best results, use the colonized grain spawn within 3 months.

πŸ’‘ Tips for Success

  • Work as cleanly as possible during inoculation.
  • Always sanitize the bottle septum and SHIP before each use.
  • Do not remove or damage the filter patch.
  • Healthy mycelium should appear bright white and vigorous.
  • If contamination develops, dispose of the bag without opening it indoors.

♻️ Expanding Your Culture

One of the advantages of the Living Inoculant system is that the Culture Bottle contains enough inoculant to prepare multiple Spawn Bags.

When you’re ready to expand your production, simply order additional Sterilized Sorghum Grain Spawn and repeat the inoculation process using the remaining Living Inoculant.
