The Physics of Biological Extraction: Engineered for Field Conditions

Stop fighting flimsy nylon meshes that pack tight like a brick, or low-grade organic bags that trap your best biology, rot out, and harbour anaerobic pathogens between runs.

The STS Reusable Poly-Mesh Microbial Extraction Filter is a masterclass in smart, low-tech resource optimization. Tested and vetted at the Sustainability Testing Station (STS), this filter features a high-density, elastic polypropylene micro-weave that hits the absolute golden volumetric corridor for Actively Aerated Compost Tea (AACT). It is tight enough to trap fine silt and raw carbon sediments, yet dynamically flexible enough to let massive beneficial fungal hyphae and diverse soil microbes pass completely unhindered into your water column.

The Design Advantages:

  • High-Density Polypropylene Micro-Weave: 100% synthetic and hydrophobic. It doesn’t absorb water or organic residue, meaning it dries near-instantly and completely suppresses unwanted anaerobic biofilm cross-contamination between batches.
  • Superfine Mesh: Equivalent filtration efficiency of 1-15 micron. [0.001-0.015mm]
  • High Linear Elasticity: Open-ended, stretchable cylindrical geometry allows the biological base material to roll and tumble dynamically under the pressure of rising air bubbles, maximizing extraction efficiency.
  • Integrated 7-Core Lashing Cord: Includes a 50cm cut of heavy-duty 4mm rot-proof paracord. Choke-hitch the top of the filter closed and loop the tail over your bucket handle for safe, clean extraction without fishing around blindly in dark, frothy microbe tea.
  • Industrial Maintenance Level: Zero zippers to rust or jam with worm castings. To clean, simply turn the filter inside out, rinse it down thoroughly with a garden hose, and hang it up. Built to survive dozens of active brewing cycles.

Instructions

The STS Volumetric Protocol (10% Extraction Rule)

While this filter can comfortably stretch to accommodate up to 3 Litres of dense substrate before hitting physical volume limits, we recommend balancing your biological input against your water volume for optimal dissolved oxygen retention:

  • 5L Brewing Vessel: Add 500ml of biological base (leaves high headroom for maximum internal water flow).

  • 10L Brewing Vessel: Add 1 Litre of biological base.

  • 20L Brewing Vessel / Drum: Add 2 Litres of biological base (maximum optimal operational load).

The Workflow:

  1. Dose yourΒ VitaVermi BAM!, Compost, Organics or high-nitrogen CFT vermicompost into the filter.

  2. Secure the top using a tight choke-hitch with the included 7-core lashing cord.

  3. Suspend the filter inside your bucket directly over your air ring or air stones.

  4. Fill with dechlorinated water, add your complex carbon/sugar catalyst source, and run your aeration pump for 48 to 72 hours.

  5. Lift out using the cord tail, empty the spent core onto your garden beds, rinse, and reuse.
