The Multi-Purpose Technical & Cosmetic Standard
Whether you are formulating custom skincare, preserving high-value botanical extracts, or managing a home laboratory, purity is everything.
Our Pure Cosmetic-Grade Vegetable Glycerine is an 99.5% ultra-pure, BP-grade (British Pharmacopoeia) liquid. It is completely clear, odourless, sweet-tasting, and highly viscous. Because we value sustainability, we don’t ship our raw materials in cheap, single-use disposable plastic. Instead, this glycerine comes packaged directly in our flagship Reusable 320ml Polypropylene Media Jar—giving you a premium ingredient today and an indestructible, autoclavable laboratory asset for tomorrow.
The Media Jar Advantage
Once your glycerine is finished, the heavy-duty vessel is fully reusable for intensive laboratory work:
- Gasketless Compression Seal: Designed with a matching double-taper profile on the jar lip and lid, creating a 100% airtight, leak-proof seal without foam liners or silicone gaskets that degrade over time.
- Autoclave & Pressure Safe: Made of heavy-duty, impact-resistant PP5 polypropylene. Rated for high-temperature steam sterilization up to 126°C (20 PSI)—perfect for future agar, liquid culture, or grain work.
- Anti-Drip Pour Lip: Features a curved full-bore rim that allows thick, heavy liquids to shear cleanly off the edge instead of running down the side of the jar.
Common Applications & Methods
1. The Ultimate Skincare Humectant (DIY Cosmetics)
Glycerine is a highly effective humectant, meaning it actively draws moisture from the air and locks it into the skin.
- For Alcohol Hand Sprays: Pure ethanol is highly effective but strips skin moisture. Add exactly 5ml (one teaspoon) of this glycerine to your 500ml SPeS 70% Disinfectant spray. It creates a lightweight skin-comfort barrier that prevents cracking and dryness without leaving a sticky, gooey gel residue.
- Cosmetic Base: An excellent base for transparent soaps, moisturizers, lotions, and DIY creams.
2. Alcohol-Free Fungal & Botanical Glycerites
In herbalism and mycology, glycerine is the industry-standard carrier and preservative (known as a menstruum) for alcohol-free liquid extracts.
-
The 1:5 Glycerite Method: Mix 1 part dried material (by weight) with 5 parts of a glycerine-and-water mixture (typically a ratio of 60% to 70% glycerine to 30% to 40% distilled water). Glycerine binds water tightly, preventing microbial growth and preserving the extract.
3. Laboratory & Technical Utility
- Cryoprotectant (Culture Freezing): Used to safeguard biological cultures (such as liquid media or spore suspensions) for long-term cold storage. Glycerine prevents sharp ice crystals from forming and rupturing cell walls.
- Glassware Lubricant: The classic, safe lubricant used to slide glass tubing, thermometers, or adapters through tight rubber stoppers without risk of breakage.
- Craft Preservation: Replace the natural water content of delicate leaves, mosses, and branches with a glycerine-water bath to keep them soft, colorful, and supple for years.
