Organic Red Sorghum, 2000 gram

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬ Your DIY Spawn Foundation:Β

Start your fungal projects from the ground up with clean, high-grade Red Sorghum grain (known as Milo in the USA). Sorghum is a top choice for mycology due to its small size and durable hull, which resists bursting during hydration and sterilization.

πŸ”‘ Key Features for Mycology

  • Optimal Size and Surface Area: The small, uniform size of the Sorghum kernel provides maximum surface area and numerous inoculation points, facilitating fast and dense mycelial colonization once properly prepared.
  • Superior Structure: The kernels hold their shape well through the soak, boil, and sterilization processes, minimizing burst grains and reducing the risk of contamination in your finished spawn.
  • Versatile Substrate: Perfect for creating mother spawn, grain-to-grain (G2G) transfers, and for inoculating bulk substrates like straw, coco coir, or dung.
  • Cost-Effective: Purchasing dry grain in bulk is the most economical way for high-volume growers to produce their own spawn.

βš™οΈ Preparation & Usage

This product is raw, dry grain and requires preparation before use as spawn. Here is our 3o-minute Steep protocol.

  1. Clean : Put the grain in a bucket, add 2-3 drops dishwashing liquid, and then fill with warm water until 5-10cm above grain level. Vigorously stir with ladle to clean, drain and discard floaters. Repeat until no floaters and runoff clean.Β  Strain off excess water
  2. Boil:Β Bring 6-litre water to the boil, add the drained sorghum, and cover pot
  3. Steep: Turn off the heat and steep the Sorghum for 30 minutes.
  4. Drain and Dry: After 30 minutes then strain through colander, allowing external water to steam off. Ensure the outside of the kernels is dry.
  5. Sterilize: Load into heat-safe containers or bags and autoclave or pressure cook at 15 psi for 90-120Β minutes.
  6. Inoculate: Once cooled, inoculate with your chosen culture.

Note: We recommend our BunduTeq BioJar or our pre-sterilized bags for a guaranteed contaminant-free starting point, but this bulk grain is perfect for large-scale operations willing to manage their own sterilization process.
