Calcium-sated activated carbon pre-colonized with earthworm-gut microbes to sink, digest septic sludge, and lock odours at the source.
Stop feeding the surface. Put the biology where the waste is.
Traditional septic treatments float on top of surface scum or wash straight out down the drain before doing any real work. BAC-X (Biologically Active Carbon – Enhanced) solves this fundamental physical flaw by combining high-density Macadamia Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) with the powerful digestive biology of the vermicomposting earthworm.
Built on proven Terra Preta Nova principles, the GAC is first calcium-sated (SAC) and prepared as a stable biological carrier. It is then combined with a small proportion of fresh vermicompost and a controlled nutrient medium before being biologically expanded under oxygen-limited conditions. Finally, it is inoculated with a native, whey-purified Lactobacillus consortium derived from earthworm gut flora.
Why the activated carbon matters
The Macadamia GAC does more than provide a carrier.Β Its interconnected pore structure provides a protected surface on which microorganisms can attach and establish a biofilm. The dense granules also settle through wastewater rather than behaving like a floating powder.
This gives BAC-X a simple physical advantage:
the biology travels with the carbon to the waste.
Once established in the organic-rich zone, the microbial community can participate in the natural biological breakdown of fats, oils, proteins and other biodegradable organic residues.Β At the same time, activated carbon provides a large internal surface capable of adsorbing odour-forming compounds. This gives BAC-X two complementary functions:
- Biology continually breaks down organic material.
- Activated Carbon captures dissolved and gaseous compounds.
Through continuous bio-regeneration, the live microbes digest trapped waste inside the carbon pores, self-clearing the adsorption sites so the carbon keeps locking odours and digesting sludge indefinitely.
- Heavy-Density Sinking Action: Reaches the deep anoxic sludge bed where odours originate.
- Vapor Lock: Physical carbon adsorbs foul sulfuric and ammoniac smells on contact. The biology transforms them to stabler Sulphates and Nitrates.
- Lipolytic & Proteolytic Power: Earthworm-gut Lactobacilli cleave tough fat and protein layers.
- Reduces Pump-Out Frequency: Actively liquefies accumulated solids to preserve tank volume and reduce blockages – a biologically active sewer is a quiet sewer.
From vermiculture to biological carbon
BAC-X begins with fresh vermicompost β not a laboratory-designed microbial cocktail.
A small quantity of fresh vermicompost is selectively fermented in milk. As the milk separates, the resulting whey purifies the LAB-portion of the biological mother culture used for expansion.
The mother culture is then introduced into calcium-conditioned Macadamia GAC together with vermicompost and a controlled carbohydrate source.
- The carbon matrix becomes the habitat.
- The biology becomes the working population.
The finished material is then separated from the liquid BAM-X fraction and retained as the moist, biologically impregnated carbon granule sold as BAC-X.
